Over the past few weeks I have worked with quite a few people and through applying the Workspired process we have discovered they actually love their current roles.
At it’s heart they love what they do…however there’s just a few things that they would like to focus on more (or less) in order to be totally engaged at work.
For example one of the people I worked with is a management consultant. Through the Workspired process we validated that they really enjoy consulting and solving complex problems. However they feel a bit disconnected from a team (because they are always working on a client problem) and also really enjoy seeing their recommendations through to implementation. And so some of the action points we came up with include plugging into their team a bit more through social events and also focusing on internal projects so that they can effect real change (rather than writing a report and leaving it to another organisation to implement).
Through these conversations I realised that there’s really 3 things people can do in order to focus even more on what they love to do at work. They are:
- Talk to your boss and explore how you can do this
- Look for opportunities across your organisation to do more of what you love
- Just start doing those things in your existing role!
